The same web protection component that fends of malicious URLs also serves to protect against phishing sites, fraudulent sites that try to steal your login credentials by mimicking sensitive websites. McAfee and Trend Micro Maximum Security also did well, with 97 percent protection. To put that in perspective, Norton and Bitdefender achieved 99 percent protection in this test. Total Defense's added web protection means it did a lot better in this test than its standalone antivirus, but it still only managed 73 percent protection. Products gets equal credit for preventing all access to the dangerous URL and for wiping out the malware during download. I test a product's ability to handle the latest attacks using a feed of recently uncovered malware-hosting URLs supplied by MRG-Effitas. Challenged with the same samples, however, Cylance, F-Secure, McAfee, and Symantec Norton Security Premium all managed 9.3. Total Defense took 8.6 of 10 possible points, a decent score. I let all aspects of the antivirus do their work, launching any samples that don't get zinged the moment they're seen. One test uses malware samples I've gathered and analyzed. No results from the labs means my hands-on malware protection tests count for more. SE Labs didn't include Bitdfender in its most recent tests, but its aggregate score from the remaining three is 10 of 10 possible points.

I'll summarize my review of the suite here go read the full review for additional details. The entry-level security suite adds that important feature, along with parental control, a performance-check tool, and a cloud-based backup system here. Total Defense takes the unusual step of omitting web protection from its basic Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus. The biggest difference is that a panel for the Ultimate-only Vulnerability scan replaces the Support panel. Both let you access major security components either by clicking large button panels or by selecting from a left-rail menu. Both have the same dark background, white text, and bold-colored line-art icons. On Windows, you won't see much difference between Premium and Ultimate. I've chosen to treat Total Defense Premium Internet Security as an entry-level suite, and the more generous Total Defense Ultimate Internet Security (reviewed here) as a cross-platform multi-device suite. But when you start looking at many devices, a five-licenses limit doesn't always cut it.
COMPUTER SECURITY REVIEWS 2018 INSTALL
I should point out that you can use these licenses to install protection on your Android and macOS devices, too. The entry-level Total Defense Premium Internet Security costs $20 less, offers five licenses, and gives you 10GB of storage for your backups.

All in all, Total Defense's price point is normal, and the 25GB of hosted backup storage is a nice bonus. Kaspersky Security Cloud looks expensive, at $149.99 per year, but that gets you 20 cross-platform licenses, which in many households is effectively unlimited.

BullGuard Premium Protection also offers 10 licenses for nearly the same price, and a McAfee subscription at the same price as Total Defense lets you install protection on every iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows device in your household. As with Norton (which costs $10 more) you get 25GB of hosted storage for your online backups. You pay $99.99 per year for 10 Total Defense licenses.
COMPUTER SECURITY REVIEWS 2018 FOR ANDROID
It offers a few additional features for Windows, along with very good security for Android and macOS devices. Others don't make things as clear-would you consider "Deluxe" or "Premium" to be the better option? Then there are those that cut to the chase, identifying the top-of-the-line product as "Ultimate." Indeed, Total Defense Ultimate Internet Security is at the pinnacle of this company's product line. Some add "Total" to the higher-level suites name. When a security company offers two levels of security suite, distinguishing entry-level from top-tier is important.
